There are many misconceptions about plastic surgery and other cosmetic procedures. We’d like to clear up some of these myths. In this article, we are going to debunk several of the most common myths surrounding plastic surgery.
Myth – You can Expect Your Results to Last Forever
Having a plastic surgery procedure done does not mean that your body stops aging. Your body will continue to age long past your date of surgery. A facelift may be able to reset your aging clock by several years, but the clock keeps on ticking. Aging is inevitable, and while plastic surgery procedures can help stall the march of time, the results do not last forever.
Myth – Every Procedure is Painless for Every Person
Everyone experiences pain differently. One patient may experience no pain at all with a certain procedure, while another person may experience a great deal of pain with the same exact surgery. There are general guidelines for specific procedures that can give some insight into how painful a procedure is, but pain is so subjective that you will need to approach your procedure from your own perspective.
Myth – Each Patient is a Good Candidate for Every Procedure
While some clinics will tell you that every procedure is good for every patient, the truth is that some patients are simply not good candidates for certain procedures. You should always work with your plastic surgeon to determine the best procedure or procedures for your situation.

If you are unsatisfied with your appearance, there are many options at your disposal (both surgical and non-invasive options) to address any present issues. But with so many options, a lot of patients have a difficult time figuring out what’s best for them. In this article, we are going to discuss the thread lift procedure and who is a good candidate for this particular cosmetic treatment.
What is a Thread Lift?
A thread lift is a cosmetic procedure in which the patient’s skin is “lifted” with the use of temporary sutures. Instead of removing portions of skin, the plastic surgeon stitches portions of it up – essentially suspending it and leading to a tighter look.
Who Can Benefit from a Thread Lift?
With any cosmetic procedure, it’s important to determine whether or not you are a good candidate before proceeding with treatment. Thread lifts can be beneficial for many patients, including those with any of the following:
- Skin laxity
- Drooping chin
Ultimately, a plastic surgeon is needed to determine whether or not a thread lift is a good option for you. During your initial surgical consultation, your plastic surgeon will evaluate your particular situation, explain your options to you, and work with you to develop a treatment strategy that fits your individual needs.
Best Candidate for Thread Lift
Here are some criteria that can help you determine if you are a good candidate for a thread lift:
- Age demographic: 30-65
- Preferable to have no prior plastic surgery of the area being treated
- Ok to have previous injections with neurotoxins or dermal fillers, as long as performed greater than two weeks prior
- Candidates should have some or all of the following to be considered as a patient/model:
- Mild to Moderate flat & ptotic cheek tissue (cheeks have fallen creating nasolabial folds)
- Mild to moderate jowling / descent of the lower third of the face
- Mild to moderate brow ptosis (droopy eyebrows)
- Mild neck cutaneous bands – patients with platysmal bands or excess skin are not good candidates for the procedure
- Crepey skin of the area of the face or body being treated
- Mild to moderate ptosis of the body area being treated (breasts, buttocks)
- Mild folding of skin above knees, elbows
- Models should be calm in nature, willing to get injected in front of a group and able to tolerate mild to moderate pain. Preferably, individuals have previously had aesthetic injectables.
- Currently not taking any blood thinning medication, Omega 3’s, Vitamin E, Ginko, Ginseng, Garlic, anti-inflammatories, steroids, or neuromuscular blockers
- Not allergic to lidocaine or epinephrine
- No active infections including colds, sinus infections, upper respiratory infections, cold sores, or rashes

There are numerous cosmetic treatment options available to patients who are looking to improve the youthful look of their skin. In this article, we are going to talk about a handful of cosmetic treatments that can give your skin a more youthful look and feel.
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive procedure in which the skin is essentially “sanded” down to improve texture, fine lines, and scarring.
Botox & Facial Fillers
Botox injections and facial fillers are both great options for reducing wrinkles and fine lines. Botox works by relaxing the muscles in the face, while fillers fill in fine lines and wrinkles. Both procedures are non-invasive, pain-free, and don’t require any downtime.
Face lifts are perhaps the best way to improve the youthful look of your skin over the long-term. While the procedure is not non-invasive, it does offer the longest-lasting results compared to the other procedures we’ve discussed.

More and more men are opting for plastic surgery and other cosmetic procedures. But why is that? In this article, we are going to talk about why more men are getting plastic surgery and some of the procedures that can help men look and feel younger!
An Increase in Male Plastic Surgery
It’s clear that more male patients are getting plastic surgery. Since 2000, the number of men who have had a cosmetic procedure has increased by 29%! And these men are not just models and actors. According to a study published by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, men from all walks of life are opting for cosmetic procedures. So why the change? It’s largely due to a decrease in the stigma of men getting plastic surgery. For a long time, many people believed that cosmetic procedures were only for women. That’s changing, and more men are seeking cosmetic options to help them look and feel the way they want to.
Male Cosmetic Procedures
So what types of cosmetic and aesthetic procedures can men benefit from? Here are a few of the most common:

When it comes to facial cosmetic treatments, patients have a lot of options at their disposal – so many that it can be difficult to choose the best option. Do you go with a surgical option or a non-invasive option? In this article, we are going to discuss the similarities and differences between facial implants and facial fillers. We’ll also talk about who is a good candidate for each treatment.
Facial fillers are injectable solutions that work to rejuvenate the skin, reduce wrinkles, and offer a more youthful appearance. These fillers can help get rid of wrinkles and fine lines, tighten skin, and add volume to the face that has been lost.
The greatest benefit of facial fillers is that the procedure is non-invasive.
Facial implants are synthetic, biocompatible materials that are surgically inserted into the face, lips, chin, or cheeks to change the overall shape and symmetry of the face. This procedure can be used to correct asymmetry, loss of volume in the facial features, or malformations that result from injury.
The biggest difference between facial fillers and facial implants is longevity. Facial fillers are a short-term treatment option – the effects wear off over the course of several months. Facial implants offer a much longer-term cosmetic solution.

Taking care of yourself after a plastic surgery procedure is important, and while most plastic surgery procedures are minimally invasive – they still require some amount of time for recovery and healing. In this article, we are going to provide some post-op tips to help you recover after your plastic surgery procedure.
Follow Your Doctor’s Instructions
This is perhaps the most important piece of advice we can give you. We can’t stress enough the importance of following your doctor’s post-operative instructions to the letter. Your doctor knows your situation better than anyone and has tailored your post-op instructions to fit your specific needs. If you fail to follow these instructions, you risk prolonging your recovery.
Ask for Help
Depending on the procedure you have done, you may be laid up for a day or several weeks. Reach out to your family and friends to ask for help during your recovery. You may need help cooking, cleaning, and performing other tasks that you may be unable to complete.
Keep Yourself Entertained
Recovering from a surgical procedure can be pretty boring, as most of it is just resting and allowing your body to heal itself. Do everything you can to entertain yourself with movies, books, games, etc.

We run into many patients who are excited to learn more about their plastic surgery options but also scared about getting a consultation. But knowing what you can expect from a plastic surgery consultation will alleviate those fears! In this article, we are going to talk about what to expect from a plastic surgery consultation and how to best prepare.
Your plastic surgery consultation is a time for your plastic surgeon to evaluate your situation and provide recommendations. Your doctor will take a look at your medical history, and any pre-existing risk factors that may exist. They will also take photos of your face and discuss potential outcomes of various treatments.
You should also come to your consultation prepared to discuss your situation and your cosmetic goals. In particular, be prepared to discuss:
- Any current drugs you are taking
- Any allergies you might have
- Any previous surgeries you’ve had
- What you’d like to accomplish from your procedure
Your consultation is a great time to ask any questions you might have about your situation, the procedure you’re considering, and anything else you can think of. Your plastic surgeon will be happy to answer all of your questions during the consultation.
